New York, NY – Environmental activists with the Stop The Money Pipeline Coalition held demonstrations outside JPMorgan Chase headquarters and BlackRock offices in New York City on October 2, 2020 to denounce both companies’ participation in the destruction of the Amazon rainforest, to protest their reckless financing of fossil fuels, demanding them to divest from fossil fuels and to stop bankrolling climate chaos.
The Earth is on fire and Wall Street is fueling the flames. Blackrock, Wall Street’s largest asset manager, is the world’s biggest investor in fossil fuels. JPMorgan Chase is the #1 banker in fossil fuels.
Since 2015, Chase Bank has dumped $268 billion into fossil fuels. Under leadership of CEO Jamie Dimon, they continue to finance particularly dirty tar sands.
They’ve also been a major financier of pipelines displace indigenous communities.
Blackrock dumps hundreds of billions of dollars of investments into both fossil fuel corporations, companies responsible for Amazon fires and displacement of indigenous people in the Amazon.
CEO Larry Fink occasionally strikes the right rhetoric, obscuring the reality that his firm continues to be the world’s largest investor in climate catastrophe.
