New York, NY – New Yorkers held a rally on March 2, 2021 outside Governor Cuomo’s offices in Manhattan calling for his immediate resignation from office after the revelations of alleged mishandling the COVID-19 pandemic by purposefully withholding information from the public and the federal government, abuses of power, stories of the toxic workplace culture and two allegations of sexual abuse.
From Day 1, Governor Cuomo has mishandled the COVID-19 pandemic. As New Yorkers dealt with the tragedy of losing parents and grandparents in nursing homes, the revelation that Governor Cuomo purposefully withheld information from the public and the federal government is the ultimate betrayal to his office and the public trust. This egregious action alone warrants Governor Cuomo’s immediate resignation from office.
Now, after years of documented abuses of power and stories of the toxic workplace culture in the Cuomo administration, two credible allegations of sexual abuse have been surfaced. These allegations must be fully investigated by a truly independent body overseen by the AG’s office. But Governor Cuomo can no longer credibly remain in power. His failures are not news to the working class and poor New Yorkers who have been struggling on Cuomo’s watch. Nor is his abuse of power news to those that have been in the direct line of fire of his and his staff’s toxic attacks.
New Yorkers cannot rely on a Governor, who, through budget cuts and lies has unapologetically caused the deaths of thousands of our loved ones, and then deceitfully covered up those actions. New Yorkers deserve a leader that is honest and will invest in New York’s most vulnerable communities, who treats all his staff with dignity and respect, who will invest in our homes, our healthcare, and our housing — not force budget cuts in a pandemic.
