Vigil to honor the memory of Mx Bostick, a transgender person fatally attacked in Chelsea on April 25

New York City – Transgender rights activists organized a Vigil in front of Five Guys on May 12th, 2017 for a Vigil in front of Five Guys Burgers and Fries at 343 7th Avenue, Chelsea, New York City, to honor the memory of Mx. Bostick, a Trans person who was the victim of a hate crime last April 25.
“Joseph Griffin, 26, hit Mx. Bostick, 59, with a blunt object and left them for dead outside 343 Seventh Ave. about 10:30 p.m. April 25, a spokesman for the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said. A man in police custody is expected to be charged with fatally bludgeoning a transgender person over the head on a Chelsea street, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Bostick, 59, who lived in a shelter at the Bowery Residents Committee on West 25th Street, was attacked on a Chelsea street corner with what police say was a metal pipe. The NYPD responded to an emergency call at about 10:30 a.m. on April 25 and found Bostick in front of a Five Guys restaurant on West 29th Street, not far from the BRC shelter, with a head injury. He spent more than a week in Bellevue Hospital before he died on May 4.
The person held in his death, Joseph Griffin, 26, according to the Daily News, has also faced homelessness. The paper’s police sources say he was allegedly observed by witnesses striking Bostick in the head with a blunt object: “The suspect walked away but turned back a second later and shouted, ‘Someone stole my bag.’

Surveillance video with a blocked view that was taken from the Five Guys restaurant near where Mx. Bostick collapsed shows them stumbling and then falling to the ground while a person stands over them. The person then stands over Mx. Bostick for about five minutes while numerous pedestrians appear to walk by, according to the video obtained by DNAinfo.”
